Preparing for Umrah
1. Intention (Niyyah)
Before starting the Umrah, a pilgrim must have an intention to perform Umrah for the sake of Allah.
Arabic Dua for Intention: O Allah, I want to perform Umrah, so make it easy for me and accept it from me.
2. Necessary Documents
- Valid passport
- Umrah visa
- Flight tickets
- Accommodation details
- Vaccination certificates (as per Saudi regulations)
3. Packing Essentials
- Ihram (two white seamless garments for men; modest attire for women)
- Comfortable footwear
- Prayer mat
- Personal hygiene items
- Copy of the Quran & Duas
- Portable phone charger
Entering the State of Ihram
1. Where to Enter Ihram
Ihram must be worn at a designated Miqat (boundary) before entering Makkah.
2. How to Enter Ihram
- Perform Ghusl (ritual purification)
- Wear Ihram attire
- Pray two Rakats of Salah
- Recite Talbiyah :
Here I am, O God, here I am . Here I am, you have no partner, here I am. Indeed, all praise and blessings are yours, and all sovereignty, you have no partner.
- Avoid prohibited acts in Ihram, such as cutting hair, using perfume, or engaging in disputes.
Performing Umrah
1. Tawaf (Circumambulation of the Kaaba)
- Upon reaching Masjid Al-Haram, make your way to the Kaaba .
- Begin Tawaf from the Black Stone (Hajr-e-Aswad) .
- Complete seven anti-clockwise circuits around the Kaaba.
- Recite prayers and supplications during Tawaf.
Dua while touching Hajr-e-Aswad: In the name of Allah, and Allah is the greatest.
- After completing Tawaf, perform Salah behind Maqam-e-Ibrahim .
2. Sa’i (Walking between Safa and Marwah)
- Proceed to Safa and recite the prescribed dua:
Indeed , As-Safa and Al-Marwah are among the symbols of Allah. So whoever makes Hajj to the House or performs Umrah – there is no blame upon him for walking between them. And whoever volunteers good – then indeed, Allah is appreciative and Knowing.
- Walk briskly between Safa and Marwah seven times.
- Pray and make applications at each end.
3. Halq or Taqsir (Shaving or Trimming Hair)
- Men : Shave (Halq) or trim hair (Taqsir).
- Women : Trim a small portion of hair.
- After this step, Ihram is lifted, and Umrah is complete .
Important Duas and Sunnah Acts
- Dua for Tawaf:
O Allah, I ask You for forgiveness and well-being in this world and the Hereafter.
- Dua at Maqam-e-Ibrahim: Pray two Rakats and recite Surah Al-Kafirun & Surah Al-Ikhlas.
- Drinking Zamzam Water: Drink Zamzam while making a heartfelt prayer:
O Allah , I ask You for beneficial knowledge, abundant provision, and a cure for every illness.
- Visiting the Prophet’s Mosque (Masjid an-Nabawi) : If traveling to Madinah, visit Riyaz-ul-Jannah and offer prayers.
